Steve Manz Still Competing in National Meets

East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State track and field athlete Steve Manz (West Branch, Mich.) is scheduled to participate in the 2001 GMC Envoy USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships (June 21-24) in Eugene, Ore. He will be competing in the shot put on Friday (June 22).
Manz, who will be a sophomore (2001-2002), earned All-American honors placing 10th at the 2001 NCAA Indoor Championship finals (59-10 1/4). At the 2001 Big Ten Indoor Championships he also placed fifth in the shot put (58-6 1/2).
Breaking records is the way Manz started the outdoor season at the Alabama Relays with a third-place finish and a new school record (57-8 1/2). He proceeded to break this record twice before finishing off the season with a fifth-place showing in the Big Ten Outdoor Championships with a throw of 58-4 1/2.
