MSU's Paul Terek Heads to NCAA Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's track and field team will be represented by senior Paul Terek (Livonia, Mich.) in the 2001 NCAA Championships at the University of Oregon (Eugene, Oregon) May 30-June 2. Terek will be competing in the decathlon (May 30-31) and the pole vault (May 31).
Terek goes into the championship ranked fifth in the nation in the decathlon (7,695) and tied for 10th in the pole vault (17' 8 1/2"). He automatically qualified for the NCAA Championship with a record-setting decathlon performance at the 2001 Track and Field Big Ten Championship, setting a new meet and school record with 7,695. At the conclusion of the meet, he was honored as the Athlete of the Championship and named the 2001 Men's Track and Field Big Ten Athlete of the Year.
"My goal is to try to score close to 8,000 points," Terek commented. "That should put me among the top in the nation."
