BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Michigan State women's track and field team finished 10th at the 2001 Outdoor Big Ten Track and Field Championships with 18 points in Bloomington, Ind., Sunday (May 20). Host Indiana captured the Big Ten title with 140 points.
Junior captain Ann Somerville (Ironwood, Mich.) captured a third-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:12.16. Sophomore Cindy Durocher (Parry Sound, Ont.) took 18th in the event.
Other top finishers Sunday include the Michigan State 4x400-meter relay team, who took seventh with a time of 3:50.00, and freshman Sarah Adelaine (Harbor Springs, Mich.), who took 21st in the discus event.
Adelaine finished 10th in the javelin with a mark of 123'02.00" Saturday (May 19), earning the third spot on MSU's all-time top five outdoor performance list.
In Friday's competition, freshman Michelle Carson (Winnipeg, Man.) led the Spartans with a third-place finish in the 10,000-meter run (35:32.51), while junior captain Ann Somerville (Ironwood, Mich.) took fifth with a time of 36:18.95.
The MSU women's track and field team may have team members competing in the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., May 30-June 2.
