Women's Track Team Competes At Big Ten Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Michigan State women's track and field team competed in day one of the Big Ten Championships in Bloomington, Ind., Friday (May 18). After three events, Michigan State is tied with Ohio State for fourth with 10 points. Minnesota leads the pack with 33.25 points.
Freshman Michelle Carson (Winnipeg, Man.) led the Spartans with a third-place finish in the 10,000-meter run (35:32.51). Junior captain Ann Somerville (Ironwood, Mich.) took fifth in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 36:18.95.
Freshman Sarah Adelaine (Harbor Springs, Mich.) earned a 12th-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 149'01.00".
Junior Nicole Grucz (Utica, Mich.) finished 14th in the pole vault (10'08.25").
The Michigan State women's track and field team will continue competition in the 2001 Outdoor Big Ten Track and Field Championships at Indiana Saturday (May 19) and Sunday (May 20). Competition begins at 10:15 a.m. Saturday and 11:20 a.m. Sunday.
