ANN ARBOR, Mich. - MSU's Steve Manz (West Branch, Mich.) continued his record-breaking binge at today's University of Michigan's Len Paddock Invitational (May 12). The Spartan shot putter placed first in the event, setting a new school mark with a throw of 59' 08 1/2" -- a record he shattered just one week ago at the Jesse Owens Track Classic in Columbus, Ohio.
Manz was not the only Spartan to place first as sophomore Andy Lixey (East Tawas, Mich.) ran to the top spot in the 800 meter with a time of 1:51.11. Senior Matt Ingram (Lyons, Mich.) was right on Lixey's heels, placing third at 1:52.28.
Senior Jasmine Alverson (Inkster, Mich.) and sophomore Terry Jenkins (Altadena, Calif.) both had top-five finishes in the 110-meter high hurdles. Alverson placed second (14.27) while Jenkins placed fourth (14.61).
Senior Matt Deering (Dowagiac, Mich.) also came out of the weekend with a top-five showing. The MSU co-captain took second in the pole vault (16' 6").
The Spartans are off to Bloomington, Ind., next weekend (May 18-20) to compete in the Big Ten Championships.
