Women's Tennis Defeats Jacksonville University, 4-3

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Michigan State women's tennis team posted a 4-3 victory over Jacksonville University on Saturday afternoon (March 3) in Jacksonville, Fla. With the win, MSU improves to 5-6 overall.
Jacksonville took an early 1-0 lead, picking up the doubles point. MSU's No. 1 doubles team of Caroline Lay and Trine Lise Juliussen picked up the lone win for the Spartans with an 8-4 victory over Sharon Schmeiser and Kim Packer. Jacksonville's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles team each posted wins as the Dolphins earned their first point of the afternoon.
In singles play, MSU posted wins at the No. 1, No.3, No. 4 and No. 6 positions to take the match. At No. 1 singles, MSU's Natasha Skogerboe recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sharon Schmeiser. At No.3 singles, Caroline Lay posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Martyne Dallman.
Freshman Trine Lise Juliussen recorded a 7-5, 6-4 win over Tamara Kaftalovich at No. 4 singles and Mollie Hood earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Vanessa Kelley at No. 6 singles.
The Spartans return to action March 6 at No. 40 Florida State and March 8 at Florida A&M.
