Spartan Women's Track Team Competes in Cyclone Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's track team will compete in the Cyclone Invitational this weekend, Feb. 9-10 in Ames, Iowa. The meet will feature 40-full women's teams and individual competitors from other schools.
TRIPLE JUMPING QUEEN: Sophomore tri-captain Sherita Williams (Tampa, Fla.) has given MSU a new record in the triple jump for the second time this season. Williams' mark of 41'08.00" in the triple jump at the Meyo Invitational not only broke the MSU school record but was an NCAA provisional mark. The previous record was 40'08.25" set by Williams at the Red Simmons Invitational Jan. 20.
LEADER OF THE PACK: Sherita Williams has contributed seven first-place finishes in the Spartans first four indoor meets this season. Williams has won the triple jump event every time she has stepped on the track, recording two record-breaking marks this season at the Red Simmons Invitational and the Meyo Invitational. Her other first-place finishes have come in the long jump and 60-meter high hurdles at the Spartan Invitational (Jan. 12) and in the long jump at the Red Simmons Invitational (Jan. 20).
MEYO INVITATIONAL RECAP: The Michigan State women's track team competed in the Meyo Invitational, Feb. 2-3. The Spartans produced strong showings in the non-scoring meet in South Bend, Ind. Sophomore Lynlee Phillips (Shamong, N.J.) led MSU in the 20-pound weight throw in second with a mark of 48'04.75". Freshman Sarah Adelaine (Harbor Springs, Ill.) followed with a mark of 47'08.50", taking third. Junior tri-captain Ann Somerville (Ironwood, Mich.) finished third in the one mile run with a time of 4:49.88.
