East Lansing, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team (4-3 overall) fell short Sunday, dropping a home match to Miami-Ohio, 5-2.
In the doubles competition, freshmen Caroline Lay (Brisbane, Australia) and Trine Lise Juliussen (Oslo, Norway) captured a win at the No. 2 position defeating Miami-Ohio's Kadija Rickards and Ilse Meyer, 8-6. The Spartans lost the team point, however, losing the other two doubles matches.

Skogerboe defeated Ivona Gvujic by the score of 6-3, 6-1 while Juliussen knocked off Ilse Meyer by a 6-4, 6-4 score. The Spartans suffered a blow when sophomore Mollie Hood (Bellaire, Mich.) went down with an ankle sprain and was forced to retire from the No. 5 sinlges match. Lay in the No. 2 position and Junior Christee Chargot (Port Huron, Mich.) in the No. 6 position had close sets as well.
"Our team fought well today," said head coach Tim Bauer. "We showed that we are a growing team and that we must go through some aches and pains to become a top team. We have a good week of practice ahead of us where we will train hard and shoot for a win next Friday against Ball State. Our spectator support has been fantastic. It is great to see the increase in supporters of MSU women's tennis. It has lifted our team."
The Spartans will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 16 at 3 p.m. against Ball State at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
