Men's Basketball Adds Fourth Recruit Of Early Signing Period

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's basketball head coach Tom Izzo has announced that Rashi Johnson (G, 6-2, 195, Chicago/Chicago King HS/Mott (Flint, Mich.) Community College) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Michigan State next fall and play for the 2002-03 basketball team. Johnson joins fellow Spartan recruits Maurice Ager, Paul Davis and Delco Rowley who signed earlier in the signing period.
"In Rashi we got an excellent perimeter player who can play a variety of positions," said Izzo. "He fits in well with our system because he has great versatility and can play the 1,2 or 3. He has some experience to give us the depth we need. Adding him and Maurice Ager to our team next fall will really solidify our perimeter positions."
Rashi Johnson (G, 6-2, 195, Chicago/Chicago King HS/Mott (Flint, Mich.) Community College) - Led Mott Community College to the NJCAA Division II championship game in 2001, averaging 17 points in the eight games of the regional and national tournament, including four games of over 20 points ... All-Region 12 honoree ... Averaged 10.5 points, 4.5 assists and 3 steals per game in 2001, leading Coach Steve Schmidt's Mott Community College squad to a school-best 33-4 record ... Through the first six games of 2002, he is averaging 17.2 points, 5.2 assists and a nation's best 5.5 steals in leading Mott CC to a 5-1 record and a No. 3 national ranking ... Played prep basketball at Chicago King High School ... Helped lead King HS to a Chicago city championship as a junior, playing for Coach Sonny Cox.
