EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's golf team looks to conclude the fall season at the Pine Needles Invitational with a first-place finish. The defending champions will play in Southern Pines, N.C., Nov. 5-6.
Last year, Stacy Snider led the Spartans to champion status with a third-place finish, shooting a 74-73-71-218. Emily Bastel tied for fifth at the tournament last year with a 75-72-73-220.
"We feel very comfortable on the Pine Needles golf course," Michigan State women's golf coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll said. "Pine Needles was the site of the 2001 U.S. Women's Open. The history, combined with our confidence at the course, will provide us with a great opportunity to be repeat champions."
This year's 13-team field includes No. 14 Michigan State, No. 22 Kent State, No. 39 Indiana, No. 45 Wisconsin, No. 48 Kentucky, No. 51 Illinois, No. 62 James Madison, No. 65 Miami, No. 70 North Carolina State, Rollins, Stetson, Ohio and Georgetown.
