Men's Golf Finishes Eighth At Purina Classic

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Michigan State men's golf team finished tied for eighth place Tuesday (Oct. 9) at the seventh annual Purina Classic, hosted by the University of Missouri. The Spartans posted a three-round team score of 870 (294-287-289), which left them 13 strokes behind tournament champion Arkansas State (857). Kansas State also recorded a team score of 870 and tied with Michigan State.
Michigan State was led by junior co-captain Eric Jorgensen (Big Rapids, Mich.), who shot an even round of 71 in Tuesday's final round. Jorgensen finished the tournament with a three-round score of 216 (73-72-71), which was good for 14th place.
Senior co-captain Nathan Clark (Mason, Mich.) turned in the team's second best performance as he shot a tournament score of 219 (74-68-77). The highlight of Clark's performance came in the second round where he recorded two eagles and went on to shoot a 3-under round of 68. He finished the tournament tied for 26th place.
Junior John Koskinen (Baraga, Mich.) shot a final round score of 73. Koskinen's final scorecard read 220 (74-73-73) as he finished tied for 28th place.
Sophomore J.J. Beckstrom (North Muskegon, Mich.) carded an even final round of 71 on the day. He finished the tournament with a final score of 221 (76-74-71).
Freshman Andrew Ruthkoski (Muskegon, Mich.) recorded a 223 (73-76-74) for the tournament.
Michigan State returns to action this weekend (Oct. 13-14) at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C.
