EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's and women's basketball programs will celebrate the beginning of the 2001-02 season with Motown Lo'Down on Friday, Oct. 12 at the Breslin Center. Doors to the free event will open at 10:30 p.m. In addition to autograph sessions with both the men's and women's squads, there will be numerous prizes, giveaways and promotions for attending fans. Both the men's and women's basketball teams will be introduced and, beginning at midnight on Oct. 13, will each hold the first official practice of the 2001-02 season.
"We are very excited about starting our season with the Motown Lo'Down," said men's basketball head coach Tom Izzo. "This is a great opportunity for fans to get an early look at our team. It also gives our team a chance to interact with people whose support is so important to our success. We look forward to seeing a lot of families at the Breslin Center. I also hope that with it being homecoming weekend that a lot of Spartan alumni will get a sneak peak at this year's squad. I hope that this event will serve as a kickoff for a great homecoming football game vs. Iowa on Saturday."
