Men's Golf In Eighth Place at Purina Classic

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Michigan State men's golf team is in eighth place following day one (Oct. 8) of the seventh annual Purina Classic. The Spartans finished the day with a two-round score of 581(294-287). They are 12 shots behind current tournament leader Illinois, which shot 569. Tournament host Missouri is in third place with a score of 574.
Michigan State was led by senior co-captain Nathan Clark (Mason, Mich.), who completed an outstanding second round that featured two eagles. Clark went on to fire a 3-under par round of 68. He finished the day tied for ninth place with a 142 (74-68).
Junior co-captain Eric Jorgensen (Big Rapids, Mich.) turned in the team's second-best effort. Jorgensen carded a 73 in the first round then shot a 72 in the second round. He finished with a two-round total score of 145 (73-72).
Junior John Koskinen (Baraga, Mich.) shot rounds of 74 and 73 on the day, which gave him a total of 147. Freshman Andrew Ruthkoski (Muskegon, Mich.) recorded a two-round score of 149 (73-76) while sophomore J.J. Beckstrom (North Muskegon, Mich.) shot 150 (76-74).
Michigan State will tee up the final round (18 holes) Tuesday (Oct. 9) at the Missouri Bluffs Golf Club beginning at 8:15 a.m.
