Men's Golf to Compete in Purina Classic

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team travels to St. Charles, Mo., to compete in the seventh annual Purina Classic, hosted by the University of Missouri, on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 8-9). Michigan State enters the tournament ranked 36th in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
Last week Michigan State finished second at the Adam's Cup of Newport (Oct 2-3), where two Spartans placed in the top-five. Junior John Koskinen (Baraga, Mich.) and sophomore J.J. Beckstrom (North Muskegon, Mich.) both finished fifth as they each carded a three-round score of 214.
Koskinen and Beckstrom are among five Spartans who are competing this week. Senior co-captain Nathan Clark (Mason, Mich.), junior co-captain Eric Jorgensen (Big Rapids, Mich.), and freshman Andrew Ruthkoski round out Michigan State's line-up.
The Purina Classic is one of the premier NCAA fall golf tournaments as it features seven teams ranked in the top-50, according to the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. The field is comprised of 15 teams. Michigan State, Illinois and Purdue are the Big Ten contestants.
The Missouri Bluffs Golf Club, located in a suburb of St. Louis, will host this year's Purina Classic. The Missouri Bluffs Golf Club is a par 71, 7,047-yard layout which features a slope of 140.
Action begins Monday at 8:15 a.m. with the first two rounds (36 holes). The final round (18 holes) will be played on Tuesday beginning at 8:15 a.m.
