MSU Women Harriers Place Second at National Meet

Greenville, S.C. - The 13th-ranked Michigan State women's cross country team backed up their reputation as a nationally ranked team Saturday (Oct. 13), placing second out of 34 teams with 118 points at the Pre-NCAA meet in Greenville, S.C. 11th-ranked Georgetown took first with only 48 points. Fourth-ranked Arizona State placed third with 137 points followed by top-ranked Colorado in fourth (165 points) and twenty-first-ranked Northern Arizona rounding out the top five with 225 points.
Sophomore Michelle Carson (Winnipeg, Man.) led the team, finishing fifth with a time of 21:22. Sophomore Jamie Krzyminski (Corunna, Mich.) finished 15th (21:49), senior Ann Sommerville (Ironwood, Mich.) ran the 6-kilometer course in 21:54 for a 19th-place finish and freshman Katie Anderson (Marquette, Mich.) finished 21st (21:55).
Colorado's Molly Austin placed first (20:48) followed by Renee Metivier of Georgia Tech (20:59). Lisa Aguilera of Arizona State took third (21:05) while Georgetown's Marni Kruppa placed fourth (21:20).
The Spartans next compete on Friday, October 19 in the Eastern Michigan University Open (Ypsilanti, Mich.).
