EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team travels to Kingston, R.I. to compete in the eighth annual Adams Cup of Newport, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, on Tuesday and Wednesday (October 2- 3).
Michigan State returns to action after placing fourth out of 20 teams at the Wolverine Invitational, this past weekend (September 28-30). The Spartans tee it up Tuesday in Rhode Island with only one day of preparation.
The Adams Cup of Newport will serve as the team's second tournament of the fall. At the Wolverine Invitational, the Spartans received a strong performance for junior co-captain Eric Jorgensen (Big Rapids, Mich.), who carded a two-round score of 142. Jorgensen's weekend included a 2-under round of 69 in which he recorded three birdies.
Senior co-captain Nathan Clark (Mason, Mich.) and junior John Koskinen are each coming off scores of 147 (73-74).
Rising sophomore J.J. Beckstrom (North Muskegon, Mich.) and freshman Andrew Ruthkoski (Muskegon, Mich.) will also play for Michigan State. Ruthkoski is fresh off his collegiate debut where he shot 151 (77-74) at the Wolverine Invitational.
