Spartan Wrestling Signs Seven Recruits

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State wrestling team signed seven athletes to National Letters of Intent to compete in the 2000-2001 season.
Arsen Aleksanyan (Moorpark, CA.) began his wrestling career with the Armenia Cadet World Team in 1995 and continued on with the Armenian Junior World Team in 1998. He will be joining the squad after graduating from Moorpark Junior College where Aleksanyan became the California State Junior College Champion at 165 lbs. Aleksanyan will wrestle at 165 lbs.
Matthew Hasbrook (Indianapolis, Ind.) was this year's Indiana state champion at 215 lbs. His lists of accomplishments include: Cadet National Champion and Junior National All-America in both freestyle and Greco-Roman. Hasbrook finished second in the Cadet World Championships and will compete at heavyweight for the Spartans.
Daniel Jilg (Novi, Mich.) will wrestle at 125 for the Spartans, Jilg proved to be a picture of consistency as he has placed in the Michigan state wrestling tournament four years in a row, wrestling for Novi High School. Jilg placed eighth as a freshman, fourth as a sophomore, second in his junior season, and was finally crowned state champion last season.
Scott Pushman (Fenton, Mich.) comes in to MSU as a two-time Michigan state champ at 125 lbs. Pushman won the titles in his sophomore and junior years and was this season's runner-up. He will wrestle at 133 lbs.
Eric Keith (Portage, Ind.) is the second Indiana state champ to sign with the MSU program. Keith was this year's state champ at 140 lbs. He earned Junior National All-America status with his eighth place finish at the Junior National Championships. Keith will wrestle at 133 or 141 lbs.
Matthew McCarty (Clarksville, TN) will join the MSU squad after being selected Tennessee's Outstanding Wrestler of the Year. McCarty is a two-time state champion at 140 lbs. After finishing sixth at the High School Championships, McCarty was named a high school All-American. He will continue to wrestle at 141 lbs. for the Spartans.
Jerry Goidosik (Chesaning, Mich.) is the two-time state champion at 160 lbs. Winning the title in his sophomore and junior seasons, Goidosik looked for a third title until he suffered a injury while playing guard for the St. Charles High School football team. Goidosik will compete at the 165 lbs. weight class.
