Schell Places Sixth At NCAA Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior Steve Schell (Dearborn, Mich.) placed sixth in the 10,000-meter run Thursday night at the 2000 Outdoor Track NCAA Championships hosted by Duke University in Durham, N.C. Schell earned All-America honors with his time of 30:49.45. Stanford's Brad Hauser took first in 30:38.57.
As a team, Michigan State is currently tied for 24th position at the NCAA Championships with 3 points. Through two days of competition Stanford is in first place with 31 points. The championships will conclude on Friday and Saturday.
Schell, who placed 10th in the 10,000 meters in the 1999 Outdoor Track NCAA Championships, earned All-America honors in the 5,000-meter run during the 1999 indoor season. He placed 12th this season at 5,000 meters in the 2000 Indoor Track NCAA Championships.
Entering the championships, Schell had recorded the eighth-fastest time in the nation this season, a 28:52.10 which he turned in on March 25, 2000 while competing at the Stanford Invitational.
