Spartan Gymnasts Prepare To Host Flames

EAST LANSING, Mich.- - The Spartan men's gymnastics team will host Illinois-Chicago at Jenison Field House on Sunday, February 20 at 3 p.m. The Spartans and Flames have already met once this year at the Windy City Invitational, it was each teams first meet of the season. The Spartans placed sixth with a score of 218.800, while the Flames took seventh with a score of 217.075.
Last week, three Spartans competed in the Winter Cup in Las Vegas, Nev. The event was hosted by USA Gymnastics and served as a qualifier for the national team. Jonathan Plante (So., Easton, Pa.) finished 18th overall in the all-around competition, while freshman Brad Golden (Orlando, Fla.) finished 25th. Fellow Spartan Jamie Spepard (Fr., Dayton, Ohio) also competed in the event.
LAST TEAM MEET- The Spartans beat No. 12 Minnesota by a score of 227.550-222.900 for their first Big Ten victory of the season. MSU's 227.550 was its highest team total of the year.
QUARRESS BACK- Senior Mike Quarress (Huntington Beach, Calif.) returned to the line-up against Minnesota. Quarress missed the first three meets of the season due to injury. He scored a 9.300 in the floor exercise and a 9.400 on the vault against the Gophers. Coach Rick Atkinson was glad to see him return, "It was a huge lift for our team to get him back. He had a great start."
SPARTAN HIGHS- In MSU's last team meet vs. Minnesota, the Spartans set their season team highs in every event except for the vault.
