East Lansing, Mich. - The Michigan State men's soccer team won their fourth straight game Wednesday, beating Western Michigan, 3-1. The Spartans now improve to 9-5-1(3-1-1 in the Big Ten) on the season and are 4-0-1 in their last five games.
Western's Reece Richardson struck early, just 1:17 into the game, to give the Broncos an early lead. However, the Spartans were able to tie the game in the 41st minute when John Benoist (Sr., St. Louis, MO) scored his third goal in as many games to even the score at 1-1. In the second half, MSU's Steve Williford (Sr., Livonia) broke the tie in the 59th minute to give the Spartans a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish. John Minagawa-Webster (Fr., Monroe) added an unassisted insurance goal at 69:02 to make the final score 3-1.
The Spartans will play their final home game of the season this Sunday against Wisconsin at 1 p.m. at Old College Field.
