East Lansing, Mich. - The Michigan State women's soccer team was defeated by Wisconsin, 1-0, on Friday afternoon in East Lansing. MSU drops to 9-3-2 overall (4-3-1 Big Ten), while the Badgers increase their record to 10-5-0 overall (6-3-0 Big Ten). The loss marked the first defeat of the season for the Spartans at Old College Field.
Wisconsin's Lauren Schmidt scored the game's only goal at the 31:19 mark of the first half. Neither team had many opportunities to score during the half, with Wisconsin out shooting the Spartans, 3-2.
Although MSU got off to a sluggish start in the first half, it responded with aggressive play during the second. The Spartans had 10 shots after the break, while limiting Wisconsin to just one scoring opportunity. Michigan State freshman Tiffany Laskowski (Troy) led MSU in shots with three.
Michigan State will return to action Sunday, Oct. 15 when it plays Minnesota at 1:00 p.m. at Old College Field.
