EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women?s soccer team was defeated by Eastern Michigan, 1-0, on Friday at Old College Field on the MSU campus.
Amanda Kulikowski of EMU scored the only goal with a breakaway in the second half, getting the shot past Spartan goalkeeper Mara Lee (Allison Park, Pa.) at 52:36. Shots were even at eight for each team as Gina Dawson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) led the Spartans with five shot attempts, while Kulikowski had four for the Eagles. MSU senior goalkeeper Lee recorded six saves while EMU junior Sarah Willis had three stops.
?For the future, we have to play with more understanding and purpose,? said MSU head coach Tom Saxton. ?We need to simplify our tactics and avoid letdowns.?
MSU?s record falls to 0-2-1 while EMU improves to 2-0. The Spartans? next game is against Detroit-Mercy on Sunday at noon in Detroit.
