Men's Golf Takes Fourth In Shortened Tournament

East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State?s men?s golf team finished Monday in fourth place after two rounds at the Colorado State Invitational, which is where the Spartans ended the tournament after Tuesday's final round was canceled due to an unseasonal snowfall. The Spartans shot 290-289=579 at the par-70, 6,878-yard Fort Collins Country Club. The University of Colorado won the tournament with 286-275=561.
Junior Brent Goik (Bay City, Mich.) played two spectacular rounds, shooting 70-71=141, which put him in a four-way tie for third place. Senior Carlos Foulquie (Madrid, Spain) tied for 10th place after shooting a 75-68=143. Foulquie's 68 was the Spartans' low round of the day.
Freshman Lorne Don (Toronto, Ont.) saw his first action of the year for the Spartans and posted rounds of 75-73=148, putting him in 35th place. Another MSU golfer who made his debut was Dennis Riedel, shooting 73-78=151.
Michigan State will next be in action on Oct. 1-2 at the Northern Intercollegiate in West Lafayette, Ind. The tournament will take place at the par-72, 7,253 yard Birk Boilermaker Golf Complex, Kampen Course.
