EAST LANSING, MICH. - The Michigan State women?s soccer team tied Indiana in its Big Ten Conference opener, 0-0, Friday afternoon at Old College Field on the MSU campus.
Each team had scoring opportunities late in the overtime session, but could not capitalize. Michigan State goalie Sara Kloosterman (Farmington, Mich.) and Indiana goalie Ashley Davis each provided clutch saves to secure the scoreless tie.
Kloostermann had seven saves for the Spartans, while Davis had four stops for the Hoosiers.
"This was a good, hard fought Big Ten game," said MSU Coach Tom Saxton. "Both teams played gutsy performances. We just need to work on getting some consistency on offense for Sunday?s game against Purdue."
Michigan State?s record is now 1-3-3 on the season, while the Hoosiers are now 1-3-2.
The Spartans will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 19 to face the Purdue Boilermakers. Gametime is 1:00 p.m. at Old College Field on the MSU campus.
