Gant Wins Two Matches at U.S. Women's Amateur

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State junior-to-be Kasey Gant (Fort Wayne, Ind.) won two matches Wednesday at the U.S. Women's Amateur Golf Championship in Asheville, N.C., to advance to the round of 16.
Gant tees off Thursday morning at 8:20 a.m. against Young-A Yang. If she advances in that match, quarterfinals are set for Thursday afternoon at 2:10 p.m.
Gant, a two-time All-Big Ten selection for the Spartans, was one of 64 players to qualify for match play with a two-round qualifying score of 149.
In the first round of match play Wednesday morning, Gant defeated Jenna Daniels of Bonita, Calif., in 19 holes. Wednesday afternoon Gant beat Krissie Register of Roswell, Ga., leading by three holes with one to play.
The 99th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship is being held at the Biltmore Forest Country Club in Asheville, N.C.
