Big Ten All-Star Wrestlers Fall to Ukraine Nationals

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Big Ten All-Star wrestling team lost to the Ukraine National team, 25-18, on Sunday at Penn State's Rec Hall in University Park, Pa. Michigan State sophomore Pat McNamara (Jordan, Minn.) and freshman Chris Williams (Fowlerville, Mich.) each wrestled for the Big Ten squad and lost their matches.

In the first match of the evening, Williams lost to Ukraine's Gevork Markaryan by a score of 9-0 at 123 pounds. In the next match, McNamara fell to Oleksandr Zaharuk, 7-2, but scored a team point for the Big Ten by scoring a point in the match.

The Ukraine squad jumped out to a 15-4 lead by winning the first five matches. The Big Ten All-Stars would take the next four to narrow the lead to 19-17, but the Ukraine would take the final two matches to win 25-18.
