Women's Track Runs in Toledo Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The MSU women's track team competed in the Toledo Invitational Saturday afternoon at the University of Toledo. No team scores were kept, but MSU came away with seven runners in the top five of their event.
Senior Elyse Adelson (W. Bloomfield, Mich.) was the top finisher for Michigan State, coming in second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:13.20. Junior Jen Denkins (Flushing, Mich.) and senior Lara Esko (Carol Stream, Ill.) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 1,500-meter run with times of 4:42.68 and 4:45.86.
Sophomore sprinter Shante Burke (Morris, Mich.) had her highest finish of the season in the 200-meter dash, placing fourth in a time of 25.10 seconds.
Rounding out the top-five individual finishers for MSU were junior Lindsay Towne (Brighton, Mich.) and freshman Ann Somerville (Ironwood, Mich.), who came in fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 800-meter run with times of 2:15.07 and 2:15.38.
The Spartans' 4 X 400-meter relay team also earned a high finish with a third-place time of 3:57.47.
MSU will return to action May 7 in a triangular meet at Central Michigan University, and will head to the Bronco Invitational May 8 in Kalamazoo, Mich.
