Women's Track Finishes Fourth at Michigan Quadrangular

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's track team opened their season with a fourth-place finish at the Michigan Quadrangular Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor, recording 48 team points. The host Michigan Wolverines won the meet with 189 total points.
Junior Jen Denkins (Flushing, Mich.) was the top finisher for MSU, placing third in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:15. She was followed across the finish line by teammate Sarah Parbel (Jr., Caledonia, Mich.), who finished fourth in 10:15.70. The duo accounted for 11 of Michigan State's 48 total points. Sophomore Shante Burke (Morris, Mich) finished fourth in the 60-meter dash (8.23) and sixth in the 200-meter dash (27.14), earning eight team points. Freshman Ann Somerville (Ironwood, Mich.) began her collegiate career with a fourth-place finish in the mile run (5:06.64), while senior Lara Esko (Carol Stream, Ill.) finished fifth in the same event (5:19.84).
The Spartans next meet is Jan. 22, when they take part in the Saginaw Valley State Invitational in Saginaw, Mich. MSU returns home Feb. 6 to host Central Michigan and the University of Toledo.
