Women's Track Finishes Fourth at Botts Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's track team scored 75 points and finished fourth at the Tom Botts Invitational Saturday in Columbia, Mo. Host school Missouri won the meet with 201.5 points, followed by Illinois St. (164.5) and Ole Miss (140).
Junior Jen Denkins was victorious in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:56.81, more than nine seconds ahead of the second-place runner. Also winning her event was senior Elyse Adelson, who won the 5,000-meter run in a time of 17:42.41, nearly thirty seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.
Freshman Ann Somerville continued her fine debut season by finishing second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:41.99, and was followed across the line by sophomore Gabriella Dorsch (3rd, 4:45.63) and Karyn Duba (4th, 4:46.54). Somerville also finished third at 3,000 meters with a time of 10:33.50, while junior Sarah Parbel came in fourth in a time 10:40.59. MSU's 4 X 400 meter relay team finished third with a time of 3:57.98.
The Spartans will now have a week off before heading to the prestigous Drake Relays, Apr. 23-24, in Des Moines, Iowa.
