Women's Track Competes at SVSU invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's track team took part in the SVSU Invitational Friday, fielding a winning relay team to go with four individuals who earned top three finishes in their events. There were no team scores kept at the Invitational, which included competitors from colleges and universities throughout Michigan.
MSU was victorious in the 3,200m relay, with four runners combining for a time of 9:28.05, nearly seven seconds faster than second-place Aquinas.
Individually the Spartans were led by senior Elyse Adelson (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and junior Gabriella Dorsch (Hamburg, Mich.), each of whom earned second-place finishes. Adelson had the second-best 5,000m time of the day at 18:21.74, while Dorsch was the runner-up in the mile run with a time of 5:07.32. Michigan State also got a pair of third-place times from juniors Sarah Parbel (Caledonia,Mich.) and Jen Denkins (Flushing, Mich.). Denkins took third in the 3,000m (10:23.02) and Parbel came in third in the mile run (5:10.41).
Michigan State will return to action next weekend at the Michigan Intercollegiates, Jan. 30 in Ann Arbor. MSU will return home Feb. 6 to face Central Michigan and Toledo at Jenison Fieldhouse.
