EAST LANSING, Mich -The Michigan State womenis soccer team battled to an 0-0 overtime tie against Iowa this afternoon in a game played at Old College Field on the MSU campus.
In a free-wheeling affair that saw the teams combine for 36 shot attempts, both goalkeepers kept their teams in the match. MSU junior Mara Lee (Allison Park, PA) finished the contest with seven stops while Iowa keeper Gabe Mauren chalked up six saves.
Michigan State enjoyed a 21-15 edge in shot attempts and recorded 12 corner kicks compared to Iowa's five.
"Our team played well throughout the whole match," said MSU head coach Tom Saxton. "Iowa has fine team speed and we had to be on our toes. Hopefully, we can use this game as a building block for the remainder of the regular season."
The tie ended a six-game losing streak for MSU and leaves its overall record at 2-7-2, 0-5-1 in the Big Ten. The Spartans' next contest is next Friday (Oct. 9) when it plays at Illinois.
