Spartans Place Fourth in Central Collegiate Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich.-- The Michigan State men's track and field team placed fourth out of seven teams with 64.50 points in the Central Collegiate Championships on Feb. 12-13 in Ypsilanti, Mich. Eastern Michigan won the meet with 215 points.
Freshman Joe Keller (Lansing, Mich.) broke the school record in the 35 lb. weight throw with a toss of 54 5.50" (16.60m). The previous record was set by sophomore Eric Mikula (Troy, Mich.) earlier this season. The best event of the day for the Spartans was the pole vault, as sophomores Paul Terek (Livonia, Mich.) and Matt Deering (Dowagiac, Mich.) captured second and third places with leaps of 16 11.0" (5.16m) and 16 2.0" (4.93m), respectively. In the long jump, junior Okoineme Giwa-Agbomeirele (Midland, Mich.) placed second with a jump of 23 4.50" (7.12m). Giwa-Agbomeirele also finished fifth in the triple jump.
In running events, junior E.J. Martin (Orrville, Ohio) was the top finisher for the Spartans, capturing second place in the 60-meter high hurdles with a time of 8.02.
Michigan States next meet is Feb. 20-21 at the Big Ten Championships in Madison, Wis.
