Michigan State Women's Tennis Defeats DePaul

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team defeated the DePaul Blue Demons, 4-3, on Sunday, Feb. 14, at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. With the victory, MSU increased its overall record to 4-0 on the season. The Spartans were strong once again in doubles competition, taking the doubles point after victories at the No. 2 and 3 positions. At No. 2, MSU senior Jaime Tannenbaum and sophomore Natasha Skogerboe teamed up to defeat DePaul's Barbara Fusezi and Kadi Hilpus, 8-3. Also victorious in doubles was the Spartan tandem of junior Brooke Townsend and sophomore Kelli Hayes, who defeated DePaul's Amy Slavicek and Brittany Reinhart, 8-0 at No. 3. In singles, senior Isabell Oelze led the Spartans with a 6-4, 7-5, victory over Hilpus at the No. 3 position. At the No. 5 position Hayes increased her overall dual-match record to 4-0 after defeating Slavicek, 6-0, 6-1. Tannenbaum also remained undefeated in dual match play (4-0) with a victory over Brittany Reinhart, 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 6 position The Spartans return to action on Sat., Feb. 20, when they take on Ball State at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. The match is set to start at 11:00 a.m. On Sunday, Feb. 21, the Spartans will dual against Miami of Ohio at 10 a.m. at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
