Men's Track to Host Meet

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The first and only home meet of the season for the men's track team will be this Saturday, Jan. 23 in the Jenison Field House at 11 a.m. Michigan State will face Central Michigan, Northwood and Western Michigan. Running events will begin at 1:00 p.m.
WHO TO WATCH: Sophomore Paul Terek, who established five school records as a freshman, will be competing in the pole vault. Senior All-Americans Kyle Baker and Jim Jurcevich will be running in the 3,000 meters.
SCHOOL RECORD FALLS IN FIRST MEET OF THE SEASON: The 35lb. weight throw record fell last Saturday at the Michigan Quadrangular in Ann Arbor, Mich. as sophomore Eric Mikula (Troy, Mich.) set a new standard with a throw of 52'-1 1/4" (15.88m). The previous record stood at 46'-2 1/2". Mikula finished fourth at the meet.
MICHIGAN QUAD RECAP: Two Spartans recorded victories, both in the 60-meter high hurdles. Junior E.J. Martin (Orange Village, Ohio) earned first place in the scoring event, while sophomore Jeff Kus (Grand Ledge, Mich.) won the non-scoring event. The most successful event of the day was the 3,000 meter run. Seniors Chris Wehrman (Pinckney, Mich.), Kyle Baker (Anderson, Ind.) and Jim Jurcevich (Defiance, Ohio) finished in second, third, and fourth places, respectively.
