Men's Golf Finishes Seventh at Northern Intercollegiate

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State's three-round total of 286-289-285=860 gave the Spartans a seventh-place finish in the 12-team field at the Northern Intercollegiate, in St. Paul, Minn. Friday and Saturday. Michigan State's team score of 860 was eight-over par and 38 strokes behind tournament winner Minnesota.
The Spartans, coming off their first team tournament championship since 1996, were again led by sophomore Brent Goik (Bay City), whose second-round 66 tied a career low. Goik split that between rounds of 70, finishing tied for forth individually at 70-66-70=206, seven-under par.
Goik received contributions from senior Matt Pumford (Saginaw) 68-73-75=219 and junior Carlos Foulquie (Madrid, Spain) 73-71-72=216 who both finished tied for 30th. Freshman Adam Walicki (Saline) shot a final-round score of 69 to set a personal career low. Walicki finished tied for 55th with 77-80-69=226. Alberto Quevedo (Canary Islands, Spain.) completed the Spartans' team score with rounds of 75-79-74=228 to wind up tied for 59th individually.
The Spartans return to action on September 28-29 when they travel to Fort Collins, Colo. and compete in the Colorado State Ram Intercollegiate.
