Women's Tennis At ITA Midwest Regional

The Michigan State women's tennis team is competing in the ITA Midwest Regional in Columbus, Ohio this week. Wednesday marked the start of the qualifying round in which three players attempted to advance to the main draw. East Lansing native Brooke Townsend was placed into the main draw and will begin play on Friday.
In qualifying round action, Natasha Skogerboe (Coon Rapids, Minn) won her first match against Sarah Nagel (Chicago St.) 6-1, 6-0, but was defeated in the second round by Melissa Iqabl (Purdue), 6-1, 7-5 Wednesday afternoon. Joi McQueen (Carmel, Ind.) and Mollie Hood (Bellaire, Mich) were eliminated from the first round of the qualifier draw.
Skogerboe and Townsend had a bye in the first round of the main draw in doubles action and will resume play on Friday.
No team scores are being kept at the ITA Midwest Region Tournament. Matches are being played in tournament form with doubles in the qualifying rounds being pro sets and best two out of three sets in the main draw.
