EAST LANSING, Mich. - Grosse Ile, Mich., native Sarah Martin has signed a National Letter of Intent in the early signing period to attend Michigan State in the fall and play golf for the Spartans.
Martin, the high school state champion last season, is a senior at Grosse Ile High School. She has tied the state high school record with two rounds of 68 (at the Brighton Invitational and the state championship). Martin won the state title last season at Michigan State?s Forest Akers West Course by three strokes, firing a two-round 68-74=142 (two-under-par), and helped her team to its third consecutive state championship.
?We don?t lose anyone next year, but we know that Sarah will be a positive factor in the depth of our team,? head coach Stacy Slobodnik said. ?She has shot three rounds in the 60s, so she knows how to shoot low numbers.
?Sarah has been on championship teams for three years, and her goal is to play her best and help the team win a championship,? Slobodnik added. ?That fits very well into what we are trying to accomplish here, and makes her an important piece of the puzzle.?
Slobodnik?s Spartans advanced to the NCAA East Regional last season, their first NCAA appearance in 15 years. The Spartans also completed the best one-year improvement in Big Ten history (from ninth to third in the Big Ten Championship).
