MSU Men Finish Sixth at Big Ten Cross Country Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men?s cross country team wound up finishing in 6th place at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships held in College Park, Pa., on Saturday. Ten teams competed in the 8K race on the Penn State Blue and White Golf Courses. Three squads were ranked in the top 25. The Spartans entered the meet unranked according to the MONDO Men?s Cross Country Rankings.
Matt LaFave (Meridian, Mich.) was the top Spartan runner for the first time this season. He ran a time of 26:13 to finish 21st overall. Jason Mueller (Shelby, Mich.) was close behind, as the freshman finished 24th running for a time of 26:19. Joe Leo (Northville, Mich.) finished at 26:25 to end up in 26th place. Rounding out the Spartans? times were Ben Evans (31st, 26:32), Brian Wardlow (45th, 26:55), Jared Aldrich (59th, 27:14), and Jeff Mulder (69th, 27:39).
Wisconsin captured the Big Ten crown by finishing with 38 points. Last year?s champion, Michigan, finished a close second, two points behind Wisconsin with 40 points. Michigan State?s 147 points were good for sixth overall. The top fourteen individual runners received All-Big Ten honors with the top seven being named to the first team and the next seven earning second team.
Michigan State?s next meet is November 13 when MSU travels to compete in the Great Lakes Regional Championships.
