Women's Tennis To Compete In East Coast Championships

GETTING STARTED: Six members of the Michigan State women's tennis team will travel to Norfolk, Va., this weekend to compete in the East Coast Championships hosted by Old Dominion.
ON THE LIST: Senior Brooke Townsend (East Lansing) will be joined by juniors Kelli Hayes (Munster, Ind.) and Natasha Skogerboe (Coon Rapids, Minn.), sophomore Nicole Golda (Burlington, Ont.) and freshmen Mollie Hood (Bellaire) and Joi McQueen (Carmel, Ind.) in this weekend's competition.
NEW LEADER: Elly Appel was recently named the interim head coach of the women's tennis team after Heather Mactaggart stepped down following her 14th season. Appel, who is a veteran of the professional ranks and an accomplished coach from Holland, assisted the Spartans in the last two seasons.
PREVIOUSLY: Senior Brooke Townsend and rookie Mollie Hood opened the season at a competition at Michigan, Oct. 15-17. Townsend and Hood each went 1-3 in the tournament, while duo teammed in doubles play to post a 1-2 mark.
