Women's Soccer Shuts Out Western Michigan, 4-0

EAST LANSING, Mich. ? Michigan State played its last home game of the regular season this afternoon, coming out victorious against Western Michigan, 4-0. MSU?s record improves to 6-9-3 overall, while Western falls to 9-7-1 overall.
Senior Laura Montecillo (Troy) scored the game-winning goal for the Spartans just eight minutes into the game, with an assist by senior Jessica Moorman (Rolla, Mo.). Montecillo also earned an assist for the next goal on a pass to junior Gina Dawson (Bloomfield Hills) who headed it into the net less than 18 minutes into the first half. Senior Becky Wilger (Cincinnati, Ohio), who led with four shots, secured the win for Michigan State by scoring the last two goals. The first goal came at the 38:58 mark, with senior Jennifer Hanink (Hudson, Ohio) assisting and the second was at 87:26, with senior Meghan Kolbe (Troy) earning the assist.
?I was delighted to play all the seniors on the day that they were honored,? said head coach Tom Saxton. ?They contributed so much, making it one of the best days of the year.?
Junior goalkeeper Sara Kloosterman (Farmington) recorded four saves for the Spartans, while senior Mara Lee (Allison Park, Pa.) came into the game with under 26 minutes remaining and had no stops. Senior goalkeeper Jennifer Haller stopped nine shots on goal for the Broncos.
The Spartans go on the road this weekend, playing University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP) on Friday, October 29 at 3 p.m. and Pacific (at UTEP) on Saturday, October 30 at 3 p.m.
