• Three-year letterman helped MSU to a combined record of 21-8 (.724) from 1953-55, including a share of the 1953 Big Ten title, 1955 National Championship and two Rose Bowl victories (1954 and '56)
• 1955 First-Team All-American and team MVP
• Became the first MSU football player to earn All-America recognition as both a player and scholar, garnering First-Team Academic All-America honors as a senior
• Spent 38 years as a college coach, including a total of six seasons at Michigan State
