The Michigan State men's and women's soccer teams call the DeMartin Soccer Complex home, one of the finest soccer facilities in the Midwest. The state-of-the-art facility, which opened in 2008, features new grandstands, bringing the seating capacity to 2,500, enabling MSU to host conference and national tournaments. In addition, the site was reconfigured to provide for a competitive playing field, along with a new press box and practice field.
Nestled between Jenison Field House and the Red Cedar River, the DeMartin Soccer Complex is part of Old College Field, MSU's oldest athletic facility still in continuous use. Since its purchase in 1900 for $1,137.50, Old College Field has been the site of Spartan baseball. Throughout the years, several teams have enjoyed use of the complex, including the football team, which competed there from 1902-22. Today, Old College Field is home for the Spartan soccer, softball and baseball teams.
The "New Life For Old College Field" project began in 2006 and was conceived to upgrade Old College Field to a first-class facility for MSU teams and fans. One year into the project, the project raised almost $3 million, including a gift of $750,000 from the DeMartin family of Summitt, N.J., to renovate Old College Field's soccer stadium. The gift, received by MSU in January of 2007, was the largest ever given to an Olympic sport at Michigan State and directly supported the renovation of the soccer facility.
